This busy doctor purchased a 2-storey home that had beautiful bones but was stuck in the early 90's.  Though the house was in great condition, the golden oak floors, traditional wainscotting and turned spindles did not suit his clean and contemporary style.  In order to reuse as much as  possible of the existing home, we kept the exterior shell and interior layout as is.   The fireplace in the family room remained, as well as the immaculate hardwood flooring which was refinished in place.  We strategically chose elements to change out that were crucial to achieving a modern style - the textured ceilings were scraped smooth, and the traditional trim work and stair railings were replaced with clean lines and modern materials.  The existing kitchen and ensuite were lacking functional layouts & effective storage and were ready for an overhaul, so in these areas we pulled out all the stops and created stunning focal points of modern simplicity.  Dark, moody blacks and smokey blues contrast with crisp warm white walls and rich linear oak grains to create a cozy modern home that doesn't feel stark or sterile.  This home has been holistically designed to be flexible and adaptable to accommodate out-of-town family guests and future changing stages of family life.
